Abstract

Rad se oslanja na pretpostavku da je svjetska zdravstvena kriza uzrokovana novim koronavirusom (COVID-19) rezultirala stvaranjem velike količine lažnih vijesti te iznimno brzom diseminacijom istih, gdje se pod terminom „lažne vijesti“ podrazumijevaju razni oblici faktualno neistinitih informacija koje su se, unatoč neistinitosti, proširile medijima, društvenim mrežama, pa i samim društvom kao takvim. Stoga, prvi dio rada teoretski razmatra i daje pregled relevantne literature o samom fenomenu lažnih vijesti, načinu na koji taj koncept igra ulogu u suvremenom društvu (u kontekstu medija, politike, obrazovanja, medicine...), te ulozi lažnih vijesti u tekućoj pandemiji koronavirusa. Drugi dio rada kritički analizira neke lažne vijesti koje su se kroz 2020. i 2021. godinu najviše širile internetom, posebice medijskim portalima i društvenim mrežama. Pritom je posebna pažnja posvećena načinu na koji se te lažne vijesti prenose medijima, na potencijalnoj motivaciji koju bi pošiljatelj informacije mogao imati za širenje istih i na šteti koju one mogu prouzročiti u društvu, posebno u zdravstvenom kontekstu. Isto tako, u radu se ukratko razmatra uloga informacijske i medijske pismenosti u prevenciji širenja takvih vijesti.

Abstract (english)

The paper takes as its starting point that the global health crisis caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) has resulted in the creation of a large amount of fake news and its rapid dissemination. In that, the term “fake news” is understood as denoting various kinds of factually untrue information that has, despite not being truthful, spread across media, social media and the society as a whole. The first part of the paper therefore theoretically considers and provides an overview of the relevant scholarly work on the phenomenon of fake news, of the way the concept of fake news informs the contemporary society (in the context of politics, education, medicine, etc.), and of the role fake news have played in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The second part analyses some of the fake news that spread over the internet in 2020 and 2021, especially on news websites and social media. In doing so, special attention is paid to the way the media transmit fake news, the potential motivation that the sender of such information could have for spreading it, and the damage fake news can cause in a society, especially when medical fake news are concerned. Likewise, the paper briefly considers the role of information and media literacy in preventing the spread of such news.
