Abstract

Rad sadrži pet prijevoda popraćenih komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog jezika na hrvatski (Red Sands: Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland, The Hidden Adult: Defining Children’s Literature, 12 bytes: How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next), dok su s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni ulomci iz dviju knjiga (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza, Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag). Komentari su usmjereni na probleme pri prevođenju leksičkih jedinica s izvornog jezika na ciljni jezik te postupke i strategije korištene u pronalaženju optimalnog prijevodnog rješenja. Komentari pružaju uvid u proces prevođenja raznolikih leksičkih jedinica i objašnjavaju odluke prevoditeljice.

Abstract (english)

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Red Sands: Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland, The Hidden Adult: Defining Children’s Literature, 12 bytes: How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next) and two from Croatian into English (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza, Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag). The commentary focused on the issues that arise in translating lexical items from the source language into the target language and the procedures and strategies used in finding the optimal translation solution. The comments give insight into the process of translating a variety of lexical items and show the reasoning behind certain translation choices.
