Abstract

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies: Mobilities for the Twenty-first Centruy, The Age of Living Machines: How Biology Will Build the Next Technology Revolution), and two from Croatian into English (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka, Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča). The commentary focused on different aspects of idiomaticity and the means of achieving it. Moreover, different translation strategies were presented and elaborated with the goal of supporting the final solutions.

Abstract (croatian)

Ovaj se rad sastoji od pet prijevoda s komentarima. Ulomci triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog jezika na hrvatski (Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies: Mobilities for the Twenty-first Centruy, The Age of Living Machines: How Biology Will Build the Next Technology Revolution), dok su s hrvatskog jezika na engleski prevedeni ulomci dviju knjiga (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka, Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča). Glavni su fokus komentara različiti aspekti idiomatičnosti te načini na koje se idiomatičnost postiže u prijevodu. Nadalje, različite prijevodne strategije predstavljene su i opisane kako bi potkrijepile konačna prevoditeljska rješenja.
