Abstract

Jedna je od karakteristika ljudskog jezika da se mijenja i prilagođava u skladu s relevantnom kulturnom i društvenom klimom. Jedan od načina na koji su se proučavale jezične promjene bilo je ispitivanjem kako stav ljudi o društvenoj hijerarhiji, statusu i pravilima ponašanja utječe na njihovo korištenje određenih oblika oslovljavanja. Neki jezici, poput švedskog, prošli su kroz prilično radikalne promjene u svom sustavu oslovljavanja. Pod utjecajem egalitarističke politike 1960-ih godina, švedski sustav oslovljavanja prešao je sa strogog korištenja titula na upotrebu neformalnih oblika kao što su imena i osobna zamjenica ti (du) u svrhu uklanjanja klasnih razlika. Posljedice takozvane du-reforme i dalje su vidljive u suvremenom švedskom jeziku.

Abstract (english)

A characteristic of human language is that it changes and adapts in accordance with the relevant cultural and social climate. One of the ways in which language change was studied was by examining how people’s attitude on social hierarchy, status and rules of conduct affected their use of certain address forms. Some languages, such as Swedish, went through quite a radical change in their address system. Influenced by egalitarian policies of the 1960s, the Swedish address system transitioned from the rigid use of titles to the use of informal address forms such as first names and the second person pronoun you (du) as a way to eliminate class distinction. The results of the so-called du-reform are still evident in modern-day Swedish.
