Abstract

Kremacija je praksa spaljivanja pokojnika koja je kroz povijest bila više ili manje zastupljeni način zbrinjavanja preminulih članova zajednice, a koja odražava svjetonazor onih koji ju provode. Jedno od razdoblja kada je bila jedini ili vrlo učestali oblik pokapanja je onaj tijekom Rimskog Carstva. Rimskom razdoblju, točnije 1. i 2. stoljeću pripadaju dva nalazišta u Sloveniji – Moškanjci i Šmarje Sap. Njihovim arheološkim iskopavanjem otkriveni su grobovi koji su sadržavali spaljene ljudske koštane ostatke. Isti ostatci su u radu podvrgnuti makroskopskoj analizi. Antropološka analiza je pritom obuhvatila metode određivanja spola i doživljene starosti te identificiranje eventualnih patoloških promjena, dok se na temelju makroskopskih promjena na kostima uzrokovanih vatrom i visokim temperaturama zaključilo o okolnostima same kremacije te djelomično rekonstruirao njezin proces. Na temelju sagledavanja šireg konteksta grobova i njihovih zapuna te posljedične potvrde da je u oba slučaja uistinu bila riječ o provedbi kremacija, nalazišta se dovode u vezu s onodobnim pogrebnim običajima. U konačnici, s obzirom na to da se radi o dva istodobna, ali prostorno udaljena nalazišta, cilj rada je na temelju provedene analize prikazati njihove eventualne razlike, ali i povući moguće paralele.

Abstract (english)

Cremation is the practice of burning the deceased which throughout history has been a more or less prevalent way of caring of deceased members of the community, and which reflects the worldview of those who carry it out. One of the periods when it was the only or very common form of burial is that during the Roman Empire. To the Roman period, more precisely the 1st and 2nd century, belong two sites in Slovenia – Moškanjci and Šmarje Sap. Their archaeological excavations revealed graves containing burned human bone remains. The same remains are in this paper subjected to macroscopic analysis. The anthropological analysis consisted of the methods of sex and age determination and the identification of possible pathological changes. Based on the macroscopic changes of the bones caused by fire and high temperatures, conclusions were drawn about the circumstances of the cremation and its process was partially reconstructed. Taken into consideration the wider context of the graves and their fillings, and the consequent confirmation that in both cases it was indeed a matter of cremation, the sites are connected to the burial customs of the time. Ultimately, given that the sites are from the same period but spatially distant, the aim of the paper is to, based on the conducted analysis, show possible differences between them, but also to draw possible parallels.
