Abstract

Rad je posvećen trima kratkometražnim animiranim filmovima estonsko-hrvatskog dvojca Chintis Lundgren i Draška Ivezića, koji su vrlo brzo prepoznati u hrvatskom i međunarodnom kontekstu, te nagrađivani na najprestižnijim filmskim festivalima. Satirični filmovi Život s Hermanom H. Rottom (2015.), Manivald, (2017.) i Toomas ispod doline divljih vukova (2019.) dio su svojevrsne trilogije koju povezuju isti fikcionalni svijet i likovi, te su nastali kao pozadinske priče (prequels) nadolazeće animirane serije pod nazivom Manivald i Apsint zečevi. Premda su filmovi iznimno pogodni za različita čitanja iz rakursa suvremenih kritičkih pravaca, kao logičan početak njihove interpretacije nametnulo se razmatranje položaja i uloge humora, koji prožima cjelokupnu organizaciju filmova. Stvaranje neskladnih spojeva izdvojeno je kao važan mehanizam postizanja smiješnoga, te je sukladno tome teorija inkongruentnosti preuzeta kao pomoćni alat u analizi pojedinih filmova. Uz povremeno širenje perspektive na teorijske odrednice, te sužavanje na pojedine primjere iz filmova, rad sagledava kako se komičan nesklad ostvaruje u odabiru i tretmanu žanra, likovnom izrazu, upotrebi intermedijalnosti i filmske intertekstualnosti, korištenju glazbe i dramaturškim rješenjima. Konačno, na poseban se način problematizira životinjski antropomorfizam u animiranim filmovima, te ispituje njegov stupanj i uloga.

Abstract (english)

This thesis delves into three short animated films created by Chintis Lundgren and Draško Ivezić, a creative duo from Estonia and Croatia, which have instantly received acclaim and awards from prestigious film festivals both nationally and internationally. The satirical films Life with Herman H. Rott (2015), Manivald (2017), and Toomas Beneath the Valley of the Wild Wolves (2019) form a trilogy that shares the same fictional universe and characters, serving as prequels to the upcoming animated series Manivald and Absinthe Rabbits. While these films are apt for various readings through the lenses of contemporary critical theories, observing the position and the role of humor, a pervasive feature of their structural organization, imposed itself as a logical start to the films’ interpretation. The study points out the creation of incongruous relations as an important mechanism in achieving a comedic effect and accordingly uses the theory of incongruity as an assisting tool in the analysis of the respective films. With the occasional broadening of the perspective to the theoretical framework, along with its’ narrowing to the particular examples from films, the thesis examines how comedic dissonance is achieved through the choice and treatment of the genre, visual expression, application of intermediality and film intertextuality, the use of sound and in dramaturgical arrangements. Lastly, it additionally problematizes animal anthropomorphism in animated films and examines its degree and role.
