Abstract

Afazija je multimodalni jezični poremećaj uzrokovan lezijama jezičnih područja u mozgu. Stečeni je poremećaj, a najčešće se javlja kao posljedica moždanog udara. Ovisno o mjestu lezije i simptomima, razlikuju se mogući tipovi afazije. Značajan dio odraslih jednojezičnih i dvojezičnih govornika u Hrvatskoj i svijetu susretne se s afazijom tijekom svog života. Premda dvojezičari pate od istih oblika afazije kao jednojezičari, klinička je slika u njih još složenija. Afazija se može različito manifestirati u njihovim jezicima. Razlikuju se i obrasci oporavka jezika, što se dovodi u vezu s varijablama poput stupnja ovladanosti dvama jezicima, dobi ovladavanja, afektivnim faktorom, jezikom okoline i drugima. Dodatno se u dvojezičara javljaju deficiti u prevođenju i prebacivanju kodova. Procjena i terapija dvojezičara trebaju uključivati oba jezika kojima pacijent vlada. S obzirom na složenost poremećaja, rehabilitacija je nužno individualizirani postupak koji uključuje različite vrste i oblike terapije.

Abstract (english)

Aphasia is a multimodal language disorder caused by damage to language areas in the brain. It is an acquired condition that often results from a stroke. Types of aphasia are determined based on lesion site and symptoms. A significant portion of adult monolingual and bilingual speakers in Croatia as well as around the world encounter aphasia during their lifetime. Despite experiencing the same types of aphasia as monolinguals, bilinguals have a more complex clinical presentation. Aphasia can vary across their languages. Recovery can also follow different recovery patterns, which are associated with variables such as proficiency in the two languages, age of acquisition, affective factors, language of the environment and others. In addition, bilinguals struggle with translation and code-switching deficits. Bilingual assessment and therapy should include both of the patient’s languages. Given the complexity of the disorder, rehabilitation is necessarily an individualized procedure that encompasses different types and forms of therapy.
