Abstract

Glavni je cilj rada istražiti status drevnog švedskog varijeteta zvanog älfdalski kroz sociolingvističko istraživanje. To se prvo radi kroz postavljanje teorijske pozadine. Ona uključuje opis odnosa älfdalskoga sa susjednim i sličnim varijetetima, opisivanje pojmova Ausbausprache i Abstandsprache koji su ključni za tezu rada, objašnjavanje kako bilokoja vrsta izolacije jezične zajednice vodi k posebnosti, te pojavu smrti jezika koja je prisutna opasnost, pogotovo za manje jezike koje potiskuje standardni, na ovaj ili onaj način. Nakon toga se opisuju intervjui sa 6 izvornih govornika älfdalskoga, te se komentiraju i povezuju s teorijskim dijelom rada.

Abstract (english)

The main goal of this study is to explore the status of an ancient Swedish variety called Elfdalian through sociolinguistic research. A theoretical background is set first, which includes description of Elfdalian’s relation to neighbouring and similar varieties, an explanation of terms Ausbausprache and Abstandsprache that are crucial for the thesis, remarks on how any kind of isolation of a people leads to specificity, together with the phenomenon of language death which is a present danger, especially for smaller languages that are being opressed, in one way or another, by a standard variety. After that, interviews with 6 native speakers of Elfdalian are described, commented on and connected to the theory part of the work.
