Abstract

This paper observes and analyses selected speeches of Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton. It will pay attention to both their verbal and non-verbal communication, the occasions (when and how do they speak) and the style (which rhetoric devices and methods are they using to make their speech more memorable). Their cultural background and how it influences their manners, topics and way of speaking will also be mentioned. This paper will use knowledge from the fields of stylistics, semantics, rhetoric, and lexicology (how the choice of words affects the speech).
