Abstract

Društvene su mreže dio svakodnevice velikog broja ljudi te je važno proučavati na koji je način njihovo korištenje povezano s psihičkim zdravljam te koji su njegovi potencijalni rizični i zaštitni čimbenici. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je provjeriti mogućnost predviđanja psihološke uznemirenosti na temelju procjene vremena provedenog na društvenim mrežama, straha od propuštanja i usredotočene svjesnosti, kao i njihove međusobne povezanosti. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 439 sudionika u dobi od 18 do 71 godine. Online upitnik sadržavao je sljedeće mjere: Skala usredotočene svjesnosti, Upitnik za ispitivanje općih psihopatoloških teškoća, Skala straha od propuštanja i procjene prosječnog dnevnog vremena provedenog na pojedinim društvenim mrežama. Dobivena je negativna povezanost straha od propuštanja i usredotočene svjesnosti. Pokazalo se da su razina obrazovanja, mjesto stanovanja i usredotočena svjesnost negativno, a vrijeme provedeno na društvenim mrežama i strah od propuštanja pozitivno povezani s psihološkom uznemirenosti te imaju samostalan doprinos u njezinom predviđanju. Pritom mjesto stanovanja gubi značaj kada se gledaju pojedinačne društvene mreže, pri čemu se pokazalo da YouTube ima samostalan doprinos u objašnjenju psihološke uznemirenosti. Korištenim skupom prediktora uspjelo se objasniti ukupno 32% varijance kriterija prvom i 34% drugom analizom. Rezultati impliciraju da je pri očuvanju psihičkog zdravlja važno poticati na smanjenje vremena provedenog na društvenim mrežama te se usmjeriti na ublažavanje straha od propuštanja. Također, čini se da bi prakticiranje usredotočene svjesnosti moglo poslužiti kao tehnika koja umanjuje strah od propuštanja kao i negativne posljedice društvenih mreža. U narednim bi istraživanjima bilo korisno ispitati još neke aspekte korištenja društvenih mreža te utvrditi uzročno posljedične veze među ispitivanim varijablama.

Abstract (english)

Social networks are a part of everyday life for a lot of people so it is important to study how their use is related to mental health and what are the potential risk and protective factors of it.The aim of this research was to examine the possibility of predicting psychological distress based on the time spent on social media, fear of missing out and mindfulness, as well as their correlations. The study involved 439 participants aged 18 to 71 years. The online survey contained the following measures: Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Fear of Missing Out Scale, Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation – YP, and the estimates of the average daily time spent on individual social media. Of the correlations relevant to research problems, there is the negative correlation between fear of missing out and mindfulness. Results show that level of education, place of residence and mindfulness are negatively, while time spent on social media and fear of missing out are positively associated with psychological distress and have an independent contribution in its prediction. . The place of residence loses its significance when looking at individual social networks, while YouTube explains a statistically significant amount of psychological distress. This set of predictors managed to explain a total of 32% of the variance of psychological distress in the first analysis and 34% in the second one. The results imply that, when preserving mental health, it is important to encourage a reduction in the time spent on social media and focus on alleviating the fear of missing out. Also, practicing mindfulness may serve as a technique that reduces the fear of missing out and negative influence of social media use. In further research, it would be useful to examine some other aspects of social media use and to determine cause-and-effect relationships between the examined variables.
