Abstract

The phenomenon of willingness to communicate (WTC) has been thoroughly discussed since 1990’s and is defined as a psychosocial category which relates to a person’s willingness to initiate oral communication when the opportunity for it arises. The following thesis will explore a very specific context English language majors’ level of WTC in a university classroom setting. More precisely, its aim was to explain the levels of WTC regarding different aspects of classroom communication such as classmates, topics, the teacher and motivation. Its results will show that the human factor (i.e. teacher and classmates) is still relevant to the students at the university level when it comes to communicating in class.

Abstract (croatian)

Koncept spremnosti na komunikaciju (SNK) (engl. willingness to communicate – WTC) temeljito je istraživan od 1990-ih, a definira se kao sociopsihološka kategorija koja se odnosi na spremnost osobe da započne usmenu komunikaciju kad joj se za to ukaže prilika. U radu se ispituje specifičan kontekst SNK na nastavi studenata diplomskog studija anglistike. Preciznije, cilj rada je objasniti razinu SNK kad su u pitanju različiti aspekti komunikacije u nastavi poput kolega, teme, učitelja i motivacije. Rezultati će između ostalog pokazati da je ljudski faktor i dalje relevantan studentima na sveučilišnoj razini kad je u pitanju komunikacija na nastavi.
