Abstract

U radu je prikazan povijesni tijek doseljavanja hrvatskog stanovništva u Kanadu, s naglaskom na pokrajinu Britansku Kolumbiju i šire područje grada Vancouvera. Fokus rada je na utemeljenju hrvatske iseljeničke zajednice u Vancouveru te na osnivanju migrantskih udruženja i organizacija, čijim se djelovanjem nastoji očuvati hrvatski identitet i promicati kulturna baština. Abstract (english)

The paper presents the historical course of immigration of the Croatian population to Canada, with a focus on the province of British Columbia and the wider area of the city of Vancouver. The focus of the work is on the founding of the Croatian emigrant community in Vancouver and on the establishment of migrant associations and organizations, whose activities aim to preserve Croatian identity and to promote cultural heritage. The paper is based on qualitative research during which the migrant experiences and cultural practices of eight interviewees were collected and analysed. By the method of cultural mapping, the paper records material and intangible elements of Croatian identity and heritage, which are presented in the form of locations on the cultural maps of the city of Vancouver.
