Abstract

Kriptovalute su jedan od najnovijih oblika digitalnog novca koje koriste kriptografske metode kako bi istovremeno osigurale sigurno provođenje transakcija i spriječile falsifikaciju i nekontrolirano umnožavanje kriptovaluta. Također, ako novac definiramo kao institucionalizirano sredstvo koje vjerovnik na osnovi društvene konvencije prihvaća uzeti od dužnika kao pokriće njegovih obaveza, možemo primijetiti da kod kriptovaluta gubimo jedan od osnovnih elemenata novca: institucionalni nadzor, odnosno kontrolu valute od strane banke koja ju izdaje. Osim osnovnih karakteristika kriptovaluta i blockchaina, kao tehnologije koja je omogućila nastanak samih kriptovaluta, ovaj rad će obuhvatiti i pregled razvoja kriptovaluta i blockchaina, utjecaj decentraliziranosti i anonimnosti kriptovaluta na njihovu širu ekonomsku primjenu i legalnost njihova korištenja.

Abstract (english)

Cryptocurrencies are one ofn the newest innovations in the field of digital money that utilize cryptographic methods both as means of securing transactions and for prevention of falsification and unmoderated multiplication of cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, if money is defined as institution backed commodity which creditor, on the basis of social conventions, accepts as a form of payment from the debtor, it is clear that cryptocurrencies lack one of the key elements of this relationshiop, and that is institutional backing in the form of central bank. Aside from the key elements of cryptocurrencies and their enabling technology, blockchain, this thesis covers condensed history of cryptocurrency and blockchain development as well as the discussion on broad adoption of cryptocurrencies in practice considering their decentralized and anonymus nature.
