Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to study the relationship between teacher motivation and learner motivation. The study was conducted in Croatia among 77 secondary school students and their two teachers. The teachers and the learners were given online questionnaires. The results showed that both teachers and learners were motivated, had positive attitudes and identified various sources of motivation. Secondly, the results suggested that teachers and learners were aware of each other's motivation. Teachers were able to recognize if their students were motivated and the learners were able to recognize that their teachers were motivated. Furthermore, both teachers and learners provided various examples of how teachers can affect learner motivation which supported our hypothesis that learner motivation depends on their teachers' motivation and behaviour. Finally, the study indicated that teacher perceptions and learner perceptions of motivational strategies, practices and activities largely coincided.

Abstract (croatian)

Cilj ovog rada bio je ispitati i opisati odnos motivacije nastavnika i motivacije učenika i istražiti njihove percepcije motivacije i navedenog odnosa. Provedena su dva upitnika u kojima je sudjelovalo 77 učenika trećih i četvrtih razreda srednje škole te njihove dvije nastavnice engleskog jezika. Rezultati su pokazali da su nastavnici i učenici koju su sudjelovali motivirani, imaju pozitivne stavove prema predmetu te su sposobni imenovati različite izvore motivacije. Nadalje, pokazalo se da su učenici svjesni motivacije nastavnika i mogu prepoznati kada je nastavnik motiviran pomoću različitih ponašanja i karakteristika nastavnika. Također se pokazalo da su nastavnici svjesni motivacije svojih učenika. Što se tiče povezanosti motivacije nastavnika i motivacije učenika, učenici i nastavnici dali su različite primjere kako motivacija nastavnika utječe na motivaciju učenika čime su potvrdili hipotezu da motivacija učenika uvelike ovisi o motivaciji i ponašanju nastavnika. Osim toga, rad je ispitao percepcije nastavnika i učenika o različitim strategijama i aktivnostima te se pokazalo da se njihove percepcije uvelike podudaraju.
