Abstract

Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je provjeriti efekt staklene litice, tj. utvrditi postoji li preferencija zapošljavanja žena na rukovodeće funkcije u kompanijama koje su u krizi kod osoba koje imaju radno iskustvo u području ljudskih resursa i kod studenata psihologije. Istraživanje je provedeno na prigodnom uzorku sudionika (N=201) korištenjem on-line upitnika metodom snježne grude. Sudionici su po slučaju bili raspoređeni u jednu od četiri grupe te im je prezentiran kratki opis muškog kandidata ili ženske kandidatkinje, te opis kompanije koja je imala ekonomske pokazatelja rasta ili pada. Nakon pročitanog scenarija i životopisa kandidata/kandidatkinje, sudionici su imali zadatak procijeniti vjerojatnost da bi prezentiranog kandidata/kandidatkinju zaposlili na mjesto predsjednika uprave prezentirane kompanije te uspješnost prezentiranog kandidata/kandidatkinje u oporavku ili održavanju trenda rasta kompanije, ovisno o prezentiranoj situaciji. Rezultati su potvrdili efekt staklene litice. U situaciji kada ekonomski pokazatelji ukazuju na rast kompanije, veća je vjerojatnost da će sudionici zaposliti muškarca i procijenjeno je da će biti uspješniji u odnosu na ženu u zadržavanju trenda rasta kompanije. Isto tako, veća je vjerojatnost da će sudionici zaposliti ženu i procijenjeno je da će biti uspješnija u situaciji kada su ekonomski pokazatelji u padu i kad bi kompaniju trebalo vratiti u putanju rasta.

Abstract (english)

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the glass cliff, i.e. to determine whether there is a preference for women's employment in management positions in companies that were previously in crisis among people with work experience in human resources and psychology students. The research was conducted on a sample of participants (N = 201) using an online questionnaire. Participants were randomly assigned to one of four groups and were presented with a brief description of a male or female candidate, and a description of a company that had economic indicators of growth or decline. After reading the scenario and the CV of the candidate, the participants had the task to assess the probability of employing the presented candidate to a CEO position and the success of the presented candidate in recovering or maintaining the growth trend of the company, depending on the presented situation. The results showed the existence of the glass cliff effect - in a situation where economic indicators indicate company growth; a male candidate is more likely to be employed and is estimated to be more successful than a female candidate in maintaining the company’s growth trend. Also, the female candidate is more likely to be employed and was estimated to be more successful in a situation where economic indicators are declining and when the company should return to the path of growth.
