Abstract

SAŽETAK
Ovaj diplomski rad obuhvaća kratki povijesni pregled izgradnje vila krajem 19. i početkom 20.
stoljeća na području Istre i Kvarnera, čiji je teritorij u to vrijeme bio u sklopu Austro-Ugarske
Monarhije. Prvo poglavlje se osvrće na povijesni kontekst unutar kojeg su se počela javljati nova
strujanja u arhitekturi te ističe osnovna obilježja secesijskog stila, a u drugom poglavlju navedena
su zajednička obilježja ladanjske arhitekture i specifičnosti građevina koje su predmet ovog
istraživanja. Zahvaljujući povijesnim i političkim zbivanjima na teritoriju Istre i Kvarnera koja su
rezultirala razvojem gradova i turizma, počela su se graditi ova slikovita zdanja najčešće za
privatne naručitelje. Ostala poglavlja raspoređena su po gradovima Hrvatskog primorja u kojima
se najviše odrazila secesija i svako poglavlje sadrži kratak povijesni kontekst razvoja grada te
analizu najreprezentativnijih građevina i njihovih obilježja s ciljem da se pokaže raznolikost
arhitekture, ali i osnovne značajke koje su većini vila zajedničke. Mnogi arhitekti iz dijelova
Austro-Ugarske Monarhije dolaze projektirati vile na inicijativu naručitelja koji su bili skloni
modernim arhitektonskim izričajima. Vile su građene pod utjecajem austrijske, mađarske i
talijanske arhitekture, što se posebno očituje u arhitekturi Lovrana s obzirom na veći broj
talijanskih arhitekata koji su djelovali tamo. Neki od najznačajnijih arhitekata koji su djelovali na
tom području bili su Carl Seidl, Attilio Maguolo i Cesar Širola. Većina vila je danas u privatnom,
a neke su u javnom vlasništvu i uglavnom se u njima nalaze apartmani ili je prostor iznajmljen za
sjedište javnih ustanova.

Abstract (english)

This thesis comprises a brief historical overview of the construction of villas in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries in Istria and Kvarner, whose territory was then part of the Austro-Hungarian
Monarchy. The first chapter looks at the historical context within which new trends in architecture
began to emerge and highlights the basic features of the Art Nouveau style, while the second
chapter lists the common features of architecture and the specificities of the buildings that are the
subject of this research. Because of the historical and political developments in the territory of
Istria and Kvarner that resulted in the development of cities and tourism, these picturesque
buildings began to be built mostly for private clients. The other chapters are arranged by the cities
of the Croatian coast in which the secession was most reflected, and each chapter contains a brief
historical context of the development of the city and an analysis of the most representative
buildings and their features with the aim of showing the diversity of architecture, but also the basic
features that are common to most villas. Many architects from parts of the Austro-Hungarian
Monarchy came to design villas on the initiative of clients who were inclined to modern
architectural expressions. The villas are modeled after Austrian and Hungarian as well as Italian
ones, which is particularly evident in the architecture of Lovran given the greater number of Italian
architects who worked there. Some of the most important architects working in the area were Carl
Seidl, Attilio Maguolo and Cesar Shirola. Most villas are now privately owned, and some are
publicly owned, and generally contain apartments or are rented out as headquarters for public
institutions.
