Abstract

Die Größe der literarischen Meisterwerke Franz Kafkas wird nach hundert Jahren seit ihrer
Entstehung nicht mehr infrage gestellt. In dieser Zeit wurden zahlreiche Neuausgaben, Biografien
und Analysen veröffentlicht, doch erst vor zwei Jahren wurde auch die Mehrzahl von Kafkas
Zeichnungen der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Nur wenige Studien wurden bisher über sie
publiziert, da es noch immer schwer ist, dieses Opus aus kunsthistorischer Perspektive richtig zu
bewerten. Auch diese Diplomarbeit wird sich diesem Thema nicht widmen, da das eine Aufgabe
für andere Kunsthistoriker ist, dessen Erfahrung und Beschäftigung weit aus zutreffender sind.
Diese Arbeit unternimmt lediglich einen Vergleich zwischen der Literatur und der Kunst Franz
Kafkas, mit dem Ziel, Parallelen zwischen diesen Schaffungsprozessen zu ziehen und eine
mögliche Identifikation der kafkaesken Atmosphäre in beiden Bereichen zu erkennen. Sie ist
nämlich eines der wichtigsten Merkmale von Kafkas Literatur, das sogar in die Alltagssprache
eingegangen ist. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, befasst sich die Arbeit mit verschiedenen
Themenbereichen. Erstens werden Kafkas literarisches Schaffen sowie auch seine
Stilzugehörigkeit unter die Lupe genommen. Thematisiert werden nicht nur seine Briefe und
Tagebücher, in denen ein Großteil der Zeichnungen gefunden wurde, sondern auch seine Bezüge
zur bildenden Kunst und die kafkaeske Atmosphäre. Danach wird ein Einblick in die
künstlerischen Werke Kafkas geboten. Es wird zuerst ein Überblick über die Epoche gegeben,
wonach auch ein Einblick in den Verlauf der Entstehung, Verheimlichung und Publikation der
Zeichnungen folgen wird. Letztlich werden die Zeichnungen einzeln sowie auch im
Zusammenhang mit dem engeren Kontext der Manuskripte und dem weiteren Kontext von Kafkas
Prosa analysiert.

Abstract (english)

The greatness of Franz Kafka's literary masterpieces is no longer questioned. Numerous
new editions, biographies and analyses were published more than a hundred years after their
creation, but it was only two years ago that most of Kafka's drawings were made accessible to the
public. Only a few studies about them have been published so far, as it is still difficult to correctly
assess this opus from an art history perspective. This thesis will also not deal with this topic, as it
is a task for other art historians whose experience and occupation are far more appropriate. This
thesis will provide a simple comparison of Franz Kafka's literature and art, the aim of which is to
draw parallels between these creative processes and thus identify a possible use of the Kafkaesque
atmosphere in both areas. It is one of the most important features of Kafka's literature, which has
found its use even in everyday language. To achieve this goal, the work will deal with different
topics. Firstly, Kafka's literary work and his style will be examined. Not only his letters and diaries,
in which the majority of the drawings were found, will be discussed, but also his references to fine
art and the Kafkaesque atmosphere. Afterwards, an insight into Kafka's artistic works will be
offered. Subsequently, an overview of the era will be given, followed by an insight into the course
of the creation, concealment and publication of the drawings. Ultimately, the drawings will be
analyzed individually and in relation to the narrower context of the manuscripts and the broader
context of Kafka's prose.
