Abstract

Ovaj je rad pokušao ispričati što je moguće istinitiju povijest jednog lječilišta, namjerno ili nenamjerno zaboravljenog segmenta zagrebačke prošlosti. Brestovac je bio prvi sanatorij za liječenje tuberkuloze u jugoistočnoj Europi, ali i prvi korak organizirane borbe protiv te socijalne bolesti u Hrvatskoj. Milivoj Dežman sa suradnicima je pokazao nevjerojatnu motivaciju za postizanje cilja usprkos otporu gradskih, državnih, liječničkih struktura. Kao svaki živi organizam privremeno oporavilište je mijenjalo svoju vanjsku i unutarnju strukturu, prilagaođavao svoj rad zahtjevima moderne medicine, mijenjajući težište s kurative na preventivu, ali i s individualne na kolektivnu medicinu. Danas je samo relikt devastirane povijesne baštine.

Abstract (english)

This is the story of a forgotten TBC sanatorium, told as truthfully as possible. It is a segment of Zagreb's forgotten past, regardless of its intentional or unintentional devastation.
Brestovac was the first TBC sanatorium in Southeastern Europe, but also the first step in the organized fight against this social disease in Croatia. Milivoj Dežman and his colleagues displayed incredible motivation in achieving their goal, despite the city's, state's and medical structures' resistance.
Like any other living organism, the sanatorium changed its external and internal structure, adopted its work ethics to the requirements of modern medicine, changing the focus from curative to preventive, but from individual to collective medicine as well. Today it is only a forgotten historical relic.
