Abstract

Melvil Dewey je bio američki knjižničar koji je zaslužan za nastanak Deweyjeve decimalne klasifikacije koja je olakšala sistem klasifikacije knjiga unutar knjižnica te je revolucionarizirao pogled čitatelja i knjižničara na knjižnice kao javne ustanove. Znanstvenik Paul Otlet je pokušao kroz Mundaneum na jednom mjestu objediniti svjetsko znanje te ga klasificirati. More Amerikanac koji je doprinio tehničkim aspektima informacijskih znanosti. S. R. Ranganathan je još poznat i kao „otac indijske knjižnične znanosti“ jer je svojim radom i trudom pokrenuo knjižničnu djelatnost u Indiji. On je knjižnice od zatvorenih i nepristupačnih ustanova transformirao u obrazovne centre. Jesse Shera je uvidio potrebu za povezivanjem knjižnične djelatnosti s informacijskim tehnologijama jer je smatrao da će tako biti olakšan posao knjižničarima, i ne samo to već je dalekovidno predvidio i opasnosti tog povezivanja. Eugene Garfield je bio pionir u pretraživanju baza podataka, njegov rad je olakšao pristup informacijama znanstvenicima diljem svijeta. Kada se pogleda hrvatski prostor pionir je svakako bio Božo Težak koji je pratio svjetske trendove, definirao informacijske znanosti te radio na tome da razvoj informacijske znanosti u Hrvatskoj ne zaostaje. Abstract (english)

Melvil Dewey was an American librarian who is responsible for the creation of Dewey's decimal classification, which facilitated the book classification system within libraries and revolutionized the view of readers and librarians on libraries as public institutions. Through the Mundaneum, scientist Paul Otlet tried to unify world knowledge in one place and classify it. His vision and conception is visible today through the Internet, which actually contains knowledge in one place.... More Vannevar Bush was an American who contributed to the technical aspects of information science. S. R. Ranganathan is also known as the „father of Indian library science“ because he started the library activity in India with his work and effort. He transformed libraries from closed and inaccessible institutions into educational centers. Jesse Shera saw the need to connect library activities with information technologies because he believed that this would make the work of librarians easier, and not only that, but he also foresaw the dangers of this connection. Eugene Garfield was a pioneer in database searching, his work made it easier for scientists around the world to access information. When looking at the Croatian space, the pioneer was certainly Božo Težak, who followed world trends, defined information science and worked to ensure that the development of information science in Croatia did not lag behind.
