Abstract

Tema je rada Analiza Centra CK SKH za informiranje i propagandu, kolokvijalno nazvana Bijela knjiga, pripremljena za Savjetovanje o idejnoj borbi u sferi kulture i stvaralaštva koje se održalo 23. svibnja 1984. godine u Zagrebu. Rad nastoji odgovoriti na pitanja o odnosu kulture i politike te ulozi inteligencije u kontekstu Savjetovanja i popratnog materijala, kao i prikazati odjeke Savjetovanja u medijima. Na postavljena istraživačka pitanja odgovara se na temelju glavnog izvornog dokumenta – Bijele knjige, drugih arhivskih izvora te dnevnih i tjednih novina. U kontekstu smrti političkih vođa, rastuće ekonomske krize i nemira na Kosovu, u prvoj polovici osamdesetih godina u Jugoslaviji jača kritičko stvaralaštvo koje propituje glavne mitove socijalističke Jugoslavije i zahtijeva veću slobodu stvaralaštva. Komisija CK SKH za idejna pitanja i informiranje na takva kretanja odgovara „idejnom borbom“ u sklopu koje organizira niz savjetovanja. Za posljednje takvo savjetovanje pripremljena je tzv. Bijela knjiga, interni partijski dokument koji opsežno navodi i citira problematična djela iz kulturne sfere. Hrvatski su partijski ideolozi njome nastojali odgovoriti na optužbe o sukobljenosti kulture i politike i manjku slobode stvaralaštva u Jugoslaviji, optužujući prozvane stvaraoce za „politizaciju umjetnosti“. Svibanjsko Savjetovanje može se shvatiti kao pokušaj mobilizacije režimski orijentirane inteligencije u sukobu s kritičkom inteligencijom. Savjetovanje i Bijela knjiga imali su velik odjek u javnosti. Mnogi su medijski izvještaji bili pohvalni, ali bilo je i kritičkih reakcija koje su u fokus stavljale polemičke tonove među sudionicima Savjetovanja. Zbog međurepubličkih napetosti i negativnih reakcija intelektualaca zaustavljena je daljnja „idejna borba“ hrvatskih komunista.

Abstract (english)

This paper deals with the Analysis of the Centre for Information and Propaganda of the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Croatia, whose colloquial name is the White Book. The Analysis was prepared for the Discussion about Ideological Struggle in the Field of Culture and Artistic Production which was held in Zagreb on May 23, 1984. The paper seeks to answer questions about the relation between culture and politics, as well as the role of intellectuals, within the context of the Discussion and its supporting material. Another goal is to describe how the Discussion was presented in the media. Primary sources used in this research include the White Book, other archival documents, and daily and weekly newspapers. In the context of the deaths of political leaders, growing economic crisis, and unrest in Kosovo, artistic criticism in Yugoslavia intensified in the first half of the 1980s, questioning the main myths of socialist Yugoslavia and demanding more artistic freedom. The Commission for Ideology and Information of the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Croatia decided to fight these trends through the concept of “ideological struggle” which encompassed a series of public discussions. An internal document called the White Book, which lists and quotes problematic texts, was prepared for the last of such discussions. Croatian communist ideologists used it to respond to the accusations about the conflict of culture and politics and the lack of artistic freedom in Yugoslavia, accusing problematic artists of “politicizing art”. The Discussion can be seen as an attempt to mobilize regime-oriented intellectuals for the struggle against critical intellectuals. The Discussion and the White Book received a lot of public attention. Many media reports were commendable, but there were also critical texts which focused on the debate among the participants of the Discussion. Due to the tension between Yugoslavia’s republics and negative reactions from intellectuals, the “ideological struggle” of Croatian communists was stopped.
