Abstract
This paper deals with the linguistic features of South African White English on different levels of linguistic analysis. The material presented was taken from interviews with members of a South African rave-rap band Die Antwoord and from the film „Chappie“ starring the two band members and directed by Neil Blomkamp. The most important features and an overview of South African English and its historical background will be presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. The second part of the thesis will include empirical qualitative research, focusing on the features of White South African English used by the popular South African band Die Antwoord in their everyday speech and in the film „Chappie“.
Abstract (croatian)
Ovaj se rad bavi jezičnim značajkama južnoafričkog bijelog engleskog jezika na različitim razinama jezične analize. Prezentirani materijal preuzet je iz intervjua s članovima južnoafričkog rejv-rap benda Die Antwoord te iz filma „Chappie“ u kojem su glumila dva člana benda, a režirao je Neil Blomkamp. Najvažnija obilježja i pregled južnoafričkog engleskog jezika i njegova povijesna pozadina bit će predstavljeni u teorijskom dijelu diplomskog rada. Drugi dio diplomskog rada uključivat će empirijska kvalitativna istraživanja, usredotočujući se na značajke bijelog južnoafričkog engleskog jezika koji koristi popularni južnoafrički bend Die Antwoord u svom svakodnevnom govoru i u filmu „Chappie“.
