Abstract

Posljednjih nekoliko godina stručnjaci su počeli provoditi istraživanja potencijalno novog poremećaja prehrane – ortoreksije nervoze. Termin se odnosi na pretjeranu i opsesivnu potrebu pojedinca da konzumira isključivo hranu za koju smatra da je visoko kvalitetna i zdrava za njegov organizam, a izbjegava namirnice koje nisu „ispravne“. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je ispitati postoji li povezanost ortoreksije s nekim demografskim obilježjima (dob i rod) te osobinama ličnosti (savjesnost, otvorenost i neuroticizam) prema Petofaktorskom modelu ličnosti. U istraživanju su sudjelovale 874 osobe koje su upitnike ispunile online. Korišteni su Upitnik općih sociodemografskih obilježja, Upitnik Petofaktorskog modela ličnosti (BFI) te Bratmanov upitnik ortoreksije (BOT). Rezultati ukazuju da mlađe osobe imaju veći broj simptoma povezanih s ortoreksijom u odnosu na stariju dobnu skupinu. Nadalje, muškarci se izjašnjavaju o prisustvu većeg broja simptoma povezanih s ortoreksijom nego žene. Što se tiče osobina ličnosti: savjesne osobe pokazuju manji broj simptoma povezanih s ortoreksijom od nesavjesnih osoba; osobe koje postižu visoke rezultate na skali otvorenosti također pokazuju manji broj simptoma povezanih s ortoreksijom od osoba koje postižu niže rezultate na skali otvorenosti; i konačno, osobe koje su neurotične iskazuju manji broj simptoma povezanih s ortoreksijom u odnosu na osobe koje postižu niže rezultate na skali neuroticizma. Istraživanje nam pruža podatke o statistički značajnoj ulozi demografskih obilježja te osobina ličnosti na prehrambeni stil osoba.

Abstract (english)

Last few years the experts started to conduct research on potentially new eating disorder – orhorexia nervosa. The term refers to an exaggerated and obsessive need of an individual to consume only high quality food which one considers healhy for the body, and to avoid „wrong“ food. Main purpose of this research was to examine a connection between orthorexia and some demographic variables (age and gender) as well as personality traits (conscientiousness, openness and neuroticism) under The Big Five trait taxonomy. The study involved 874 people. The data was collected via online survey, using the Questionnaire of General Sociodemographic Characteristics, Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Bratman Orthorexia self-test (BOT). The results show that younger participants have more orthorexia related symptoms in regards to older population. Furthermore, men report to have larger number of orthorexia related symptoms compared to women. Regarding to personality traits: high conscientiousness correlates negatively with orthorexia as opposed to low conscientiousness; high openness also correlates negatively with orthorexia as opposed to low openness; and finally, high neuroticism correlates negatively with orthorexia as opposed to low neuroticism. This research points to an important role of demographic variables and personality traits in a person's dietary style.
