Abstract
This thesis comprises six translations with commentary. Excerpts from four books were translated from English into Croatian (A University Education by David Willetts, United States Foreign Policy and National Identity in the Twenty-First Century by Kenneth Christie, Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics and Power by Paul R. Smokowski and Caroline B. R. Evans, Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation by Michael Pickering), and two from Croatian into English (Sjećanje šume by Damir Karakaš, Faust Vrančić – portret izumitelja by Marijana Borić). The commentary focused on the translator’s process of finding good sources and solutions for translating topic-specific terms, namely, what sources can be useful for certain types of texts and how to decide between two or more possible solutions that sound equally good when first discovered. The commentary also deals with the quality of certain sources that were used for some less frequent and harder-to-translate terms, that is, distinguishes between sources that are acceptable and those which are less acceptable, all the way to those sources which are unacceptable on their own.

Ovaj rad sastoji se od šest prijevoda s komentarima. Isječci iz četiri knjige prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski (A University Education, David Willetts; United States Foreign Policy and National Identity in the Twenty-First Century, Kenneth Christie; Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics and Power, Paul R. Smokowski and Caroline B. R. Evans; Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation, Michael Pickering), a isječci iz dvije knjige prevedeni su s hrvatskog na engleski (Sjećanje šume, Damir Karakaš; Faust Vrančić – portret izumitelja, Marijana Borić). U komentarima je focus na prevoditeljevom postupku pronalaženja dobrih izvora i prijevodnih rješenja za prevođenje pojmova usko vezanih uz temu, tj. koji izvori mogu biti korisni za prevođenje određenih vrsta tekstova te kako odlučiti između dva ili više prijevodnih rješenja koja na prvu zvuče jednako dobro. U komentarima se također govori o kvaliteti određenih izvora koji su korišteni za pojedine pojmove koji se rjeđe koriste i teže ih je prevesti, tj. pravi se razlika između izvora koji su prihvatljivi te onih koji su manje prihvatljivi pa sve do onih izvora koji sami po sebi nisu prihvatljivi.
