Abstract

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland by Caroline Eden, The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature by Perry Nodelman and 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next by Jeanette Winterson), and two from Croatian into English (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza by Nikolina Topić and Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag by Roman Simić). The commentary focused on various approaches to translation issues in regards to
equivalence and the function of the text. The issues discussed range from stylistic to terminological choices made in the process of translation.

Abstract (croatian)

Rad se sastoji od pet prijevoda s popratnim komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski (Caroline Eden: Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland, Perry Nodelman: The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature i Jeanette Winterson: 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next), a ulomci iz dviju knjiga s hrvatskog na engleski (Nikolina Topić: Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza i Roman Simić: Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag). U komentarima je naglasak stavljen na različite pristupe prijevodnim problemima u pogledu ekvivalencije i funkcije teksta. Problemi o kojima se raspravlja kreću se od stilskih do terminoloških izbora u procesu prevođenja.
