Abstract

Zoološki odjel Hrvatskog prirodoslovnog muzeja (HPM) u Zagrebu ključni je centar za istraživanje biološke raznolikosti u Hrvatskoj, s fundusom od preko dva milijuna primjeraka. Povijesni razvoj odjela prati se od utemeljenja Narodnog muzeja 1846. godine, naglašavajući doprinose kustosa i prirodoslovaca u sabiranju i očuvanju zbirki. Opisane su metode nabave i prezervacije muzejskih predmeta te važnost održavanja optimalnih mikroklimatskih uvjeta. Rad se osvrće na izazove poput oštećenja građe uzrokovanih potresom u Zagrebu 2020. godine, te naglašava značaj točne dokumentacije i inventarizacije predmeta. Unatoč nedostatku financijskih sredstava i stručnog osoblja, Zoološki odjel aktivno radi na očuvanju i istraživanju nacionalne faune. Muzejsko se osoblje priprema za preseljenje muzejske građe u okviru otvorenja novog postava na Gornjem gradu koje je planirano u rujnu 2024. godine. Rad uključuje razgovor s višom kustosicom Vlatkom Mičetić Stanković, koja ističe svakodnevne izazove i planove za budućnost muzeja, posebice važnost očuvanja biološke raznolikosti i približavanja muzejske aktivnosti javnosti.

Abstract (english)

The Department of Zoology in the Croatian Natural History Museum (HPM) in Zagreb is a leading
center for biodiversity research in Croatia, with a collection of over two million specimens. The
historical development of the department can be traced back to the establishment of the National
Museum in 1846, highlighting the contributions of curators and naturalists in gathering and preserving
the collections. The paper describes methods of acquisition and preservation of museum items, as well
as the importance of maintaining an optimal microclimate for museum collections. The paper
addresses challenges such as the damage to the collection caused by the 2020. earthquake in Zagreb,
and the significance of accurate documentation and inventory of items. Despite the lack of financial
resources and specialized staff, the Department of Zoology actively works on the preservation and
research of national fauna. The museum staff is preparing for the relocation of the collection as part of
the opening of a new exhibit in the Upper Town, planned for September 2024. The work includes an
interview with senior curator Vlatka Mičetić Stanković, who highlights the daily challenges and
future plans for the museum, emphasizing the importance of preserving biodiversity and introducing
museum activities to the general public.
