Abstract

Muzeji nam uglavnom služe kao mjesta edukacije, kao podsjetnik na našu ili tuđu prošlost i općenito kao mjesto na kojem se svjedoči o kulturnim praksama i postignućima. U ovom radu se putem dostupne literature dao pregled razloga i načina na koji muzeji zauzimaju važno mjesto u društvo te onih karakteristika koje ih čine relevantnima u pojedinim razdobljima kroz više od stotinu godina njihova javnog djelovanja. Također su se objasnili neki od glavnih razloga zbog kojih su muzeji ostali važni i relevantni danas te se usporedilo njihovo značenje nekada i sada. Postavilo se pitanje je li se promijenila važnost i relevantnost muzeja i na koji način, te kako su te promjene utjecale na današnju publiku i posjetioce muzeja. Istražilo se koji su to suvremeni stavovi o važnosti i relevantnosti muzeja. Na nekoliko primjera se pobliže objasnila relevantnost muzeja, na koji način pridonose društvu, te također kako različiti tipovi muzeja pridonose cjelokupnoj važnosti muzejskih institucija.

Abstract (english)

Museums mainly serve us as places of education, as a reminder of our own past, as well as others’, and overall, as places where we can witness cultural practices and achievements. This paper will, through the available literature, provide an overview of the reasons and ways in which museums occupy an important place in society and the characteristics that make them relevant in various periods over more than a hundred years of their public activity. Additionally, it will explain some of the main reasons why museums have remained important and relevant today, as well as compare thir significance between then and now. The question will be posed whether the importance and relevance of museums have changed, and if so, in what way, and how these changes affect today’s audience and museum visitors. Contemporary views on the importance and relevance of museums will also be explored. Several examples will be used to further uxplain the relevance of museum, how they contribute to society, and how different types of museums contribute to the overall importance of musum institutions.
