Abstract

Gordon Vere Childe (1892-1957) spada među ljude koje se pri govoru o bilo kojoj temi
unutar prapovijesne arheologije teško može izostaviti. Bio je vrlo zanimljiva osoba, a u
turbulentnim vremenima u kojima je živio, dao je sebe na više razina...
Rad je podijeljen na četiri teme, od kojih prve dvije kronološki prate razdoblje od 1892. do
1916., prvo s političke strane, drugo sa Childeove biografske. Treća tema bavi se Childeom
unutar arheologije, počevši od njegovog najranijeg susreta s arheologijom na fakultetu,
načina na koji je bio prihvaćen među kolegama, pa do njegovog najobimnijega djela, Danube
in Prehistory. Prva postaja na kojoj je zastao je posebno istaknuta. Četvrta tema bavi se
odnosom arheologije i sadašnjeg trenutka, kroz prizmu utjecaja nacizma na arheologiju i
Vasićeve interpretacije Vinče kao „jonske kolonije“.

Abstract (english)

Gordon Vere Childe (1892-1957) is among the figures that are difficult to omit when
discussing any topic within prehistoric archaeology. He was a very intriguing individual, and
in the turbulent times in which he lived, he contributed himself on multiple levels...
The work is divided into four themes, the first two of which chronologically cover the period
from 1892 to 1916, the first from a political perspective and the second from Childe's
biography. The third theme deals with Childe within archaeology, starting from his earliest
encounter with archaeology at university, the way he was accepted among colleagues, up to
his most extensive work, "Danube in Prehistory." The first stop where he paused is
particularly emphasized. The fourth theme deals with the relationship between archaeology
and the present moment, through the prism of the influence of Nazism on archaeology and
Vasic's interpretations of Vinča as an "Ionian colony."
