Abstract

Češki novi val predstavlja jedan od najznačajnijih filmskih pravaca 20. stoljeća, a iznjedrio je velikane poput Miloša Formana, Jiříja Menzela, Věre Chytilove, Evalda Schorma i mnogih drugih. Počeo se razvijati u Čehoslovačkoj tijekom društveno-političkih reformacijskih htijenja 1960-ih, a koja su kulminirala 1968. godine onime što danas nazivamo Praško proljeće. Za vrijeme tog pokreta, u Pragu su studirali jugoslavenski redatelji Rajko Grlić, Goran Paskaljević, Lordan Zafranović, Goran Marković i Srđan Karanović koji će po povratku u Jugoslaviju često biti svrstavani pod zajednički nazivnik „Praška grupa“. Tema ovog rada ponajprije je prikaz svih čimbenika koji sačinjavaju pojam Češka škola, a kojim se obuhvaćaju kako češki, tako i jugoslavenski redatelji. Osvrnut ćemo stoga na povijest češkog filma, objasniti važnost praške filmske akademije (FAMU) na kojoj su redatelji studirali te istaknuti opće karakteristike Češkog novog vala i „Praške grupe“. Potom ćemo prijeći na analizu filmova pojedinih čeških i jugoslavenskih autora te pokušati pronaći što je to „češko“ u filmovima „Praške grupe“. Na kraju ćemo se pozabaviti pojmom „češkog humora“ koji se kao sintagma udomaćio na prostorima bivše Jugoslavije i koji se nerijetko pripisuje autorima „Praške grupe“.

Abstract (english)

Czech New Wave is regarded as one of the most influential film movements in the 20th century. It started with the work of directors such as Miloš Forman, Jiří Menzel, Věra Chytilová, Evald Schorm and many others. Development of the New Wave began with the socio-political reforms that took place in the 1960s. Those reforms culminated in, what is today known as, Prague Spring. During that time, Yugoslav directors Rajko Grlić, Goran Paskaljević, Lordan Zafranović, Goran Marković and Srđan Karanović were studying in Prague, where they were under the influence of Czech New Wave which earned them the name “The Prague Group”. The aim of this paper is to show all aspects that constitute the term Czech school of film, which then includes both Czech and Yugoslav directors. To do so, we will look back at the history of Czech film, show the importance of Prague film Academy (FAMU), and then display general characteristics of the Czech New Wave and of the “Prague group”. Afterwards, we will analyze movies of some Czech and Yugoslav directors and try to find what “Czech” elements are present in the movies of the “Prague group”. Lastly, we will discuss the term “Czech humor” because how it was often connected with the work of Yugoslav directors.
