Abstract

Izazov očuvanja starih novina, osim velikih formata, predstavlja loša kvaliteta papira te mehanička oštećenja koja nastaju rukovanjem izvornika (originala). Zbog toga se javlja potreba trajnog očuvanja i zaštite samog izvornika, a ne samo kurativnih postupaka. Najstarija i još uvijek prisutna metoda zaštite starih novina je mikrofilmiranje upravo zbog dugovječnosti mikrofilma kao medija pohrane. Razvoj tehnologije omogućio je digitalizaciju koja pruža nove mogućnosti, čime mikrofilmiranje prestaje biti jedina metoda zaštite novina. Svrha ovog rada je prikazati sve dosad korištene metode kao i potencijalno nova rješenja u svrhu zaštite i očuvanja starih novina. Rad također pruža uvid u rješenja i projekte zaštite i očuvanja novina hrvatskih knjižnica kao i primjere projekata knjižnica u svijetu.

Abstract (english)

The challenge of preserving old newspapers, in addition to large formats, represents bad paper quality and mechanical damage arising from the handling of originals. Therefore, the need for permanent preservation and protection of the original itself, not only curative procedures, arises. The oldest and still used method of protection of the old newspapers is microfilming, precisely because of the longevity of the microfilm as the media storage. The development of technology has enabled digitization which provides new opportunities therefore microfilming ceases to be the only method of protecting newspapers. The purpose of this thesis is to present all currently used methods as well as potential new solutions for the protection and preservation of old newspapers. The thesis also provides insight into the solutions and projects of preserving and protecting newspapers in Croatian libraries as well as examples of library projects in the world.
