Abstract

Kulturna baština je aspekt ljudskog postojanja i djelovanja koji je star kao i samo čovječanstvo, kao takva ona je svjedok živućeg ili nekog davno izgubljenog sklopa vjerovanja, svakodnevnih rituala ili pak reprezentacija nekih estetskih ili moralnih vrijednosti ljudskih skupina ili naroda. No što se događa kada su predmeti kulturne baštine, predmeti iznimne duhovne, sentimentalne i novčane vrijednosti ugroženi, otuđeni ili pak interpretirani na način sasvim različit od onog koji tradicija pretpostavlja? Kroz svoj rad obuhvatiti ću i danas vrlo aktualan problem potiskivanja pojedinih kultura kroz destrukciju i reinterpretaciju predmeta kulturne baštine i običaja koji ju predstavljaju. Neodgovarajuća razina poštovanja prema kulturnim dobrima prisutna je diljem svijeta, bez obzira radi li se o ratnim razaranjima i zapljenama, ilegalnom iskopu i trgovini pogrebnim artefaktima drevnih civilizacija u južnoj Americi ili uništenju drevnih kipova i hramova u Palmiri koji su dio UNESCO-ve zaštićene svjetske kulturne baštine. Osvrnuti ćemo se na značenje predmeta kulturne baštine te učinke fizičke ili intelektualne krađe istih na zajednicu kojoj pripadaju.

Abstract (english)

Cultural Heritage is an aspect of human existence as old as the mankind itself, and as such it is a key witness of long lost as well as still existing set of beliefs, everyday rituals and representations of aesthetic and moral values of societies and nations. But what happens when these objects of exceptional spiritual, sentimental and monetary values become endangered, looted or interpreted in a way which differs from its traditional meaning? Within this work I will include a problem still very much present in today's world, suppression of certain cultures through destruction and reinterpretation of its objects of cultural value and cultural customs which they include. Inadequate level of respect toward cultural goods is present in many countries around the Globe. This lack of respect is equally evident in war related destructions and confiscations, as it is in illegal looting of ancient sites and trafficking of ancient artifacts in South America and devastation of ancient statues and temples which can be seen in Palmyra. We will also review the meaning of cultural heritage and go through the effects that intellectual or physical theft has on the indigenous community.
